The Khumbu area of Nepal Himalaya is the most famous region of Nepal
and quite possibly of the whole Himalaya. Not only is the area of
Everest, the world's highest mountain, it is also the homeland of famous
Sherpa climbers, undoubtedly the most legendary of mountain people. In
addition to Sagarmatha (mother of the universe), as the Nepalese call
Everest, the Khumbu also boasts other 8000m. Peaks including Lhotse,
Cho-Oyu while Makalu can be seen barely a ridge away. This area is
trekking paradise and unparalleled mountain splendor indeed arguably the
jewel in Nepal's mountain crown. The course is varied - you encounter
Lamas and see Gompas (Monasteries), Chorten (stupa) and mani stones
(prayer wheel). |
